How to choose a drinking fountain

The right drinking fountain depends on where it will go, how many people will use it and whether people mostly drink from the bubbler or refill bottles.

Indoor or outdoor?

For outdoor spaces such as schoolyards, parks and sports grounds, choose a fountain built for the weather. The Australian-made Aqua Cooler SU650 and SU600 are designed for outdoor use. The Aqua Cooler M11 is IP33 rated for indoor or outdoor use, and the Waterworks RM33 Blizzard range suits sheltered outdoor areas on worksites and mines.

Chilled or ambient?

Chilled drinking fountains have a built-in refrigeration unit and need a power point. The M11 chills up to 26 litres an hour and the RM33 Blizzard up to 30 litres an hour. Many schools and outdoor worksites choose chilled for hot Australian summers.

Bubbler, glass filler or bottle filler?

A bubbler is the upward drinking spout. Many people now carry a water bottle, so a fountain with a bottle filler or glass filler is often the more practical choice and cuts plastic waste. The Aqua Cooler Oasis range adds sensor-activated, hands-free bottle filling. Looking for models with a drinking spout? See water bubblers.

Floor-standing, wall-mounted or recessed?

Free-standing fountains are the simplest to install. Wall-mounted and recessed fountains keep corridors clear in schools, hospitals and office buildings.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a drinking fountain and a bubbler?

In Australia the terms are used for the same thing. Bubbler usually means the upward drinking spout, while drinking fountain describes the whole unit, which may also include a glass or bottle filler.

Do drinking fountains need a drain?

Most mains-connected drinking fountains need a water supply, a drain and a power point (for chilled models). For example, the Waterworks RM33 Blizzard has a 40mm drain outlet with an integrated p-trap.

Which drinking fountain is best for a school?

Schools usually need a tough, chilled fountain with a bottle filler. The Aqua Cooler M11 and outdoor SU650 are popular, as is the vandal-resistant Waterworks RM33 Blizzard range. See our drinking fountains for schools page to compare models.

Can drinking fountains be installed outdoors?

Yes, if the model is built for it. The Aqua Cooler SU600 and SU650 are outdoor fountains, the M11 is IP33 rated for outdoor and uncovered use, and the RM33 Blizzard suits outdoor areas under cover.

What warranty do drinking fountains have?

It depends on the model. The Aqua Cooler M11 and Waterworks RM33 Blizzard come with a 12-month warranty, and the Aqua Cooler SU650 with a 2-year manufacturer's guarantee. Each product page shows the warranty for that model.

Can schools pay by bank transfer?

Yes. Request a tax invoice online, then pay by bank transfer. We email the invoice within one business day.
