What is a plumbed water cooler?

A plumbed water cooler, also called a plumbed-in, mains-connected or point-of-use (POU) water cooler, is fed directly from your building's cold water line. Water is chilled (and on some models heated) inside the unit and dispensed through the taps. Because it never runs out, a plumbed water cooler is the most convenient option for offices, gyms, clinics, warehouses and staff rooms.

Plumbed water cooler vs bottled water cooler

A plumbed water cooler costs more up front than a bottled water cooler, but the ongoing cost is mainly filter cartridges rather than bottled water, and there are no deliveries or heavy lifting. Read our full plumbed-in vs bottled water cooler guide.

Filtration

Most Waterworks plumbed coolers work with the Waterworks Plug-N-Play filter range. Cartridges swap in seconds without tools, and help with chlorine taste, odour and sediment. The Aqua Cooler Maximus is available with its own external filter kit.

Installation

Plumbed water coolers should be installed by a licensed plumber. The D5, SD5 and SD19 are drain-free, which keeps installation simple. Some models need a pressure limiting valve, so check the product page or call us on 1300 55 32 82 before you book your plumber.
