Planning for recess and lunch
School demand comes in short, busy bursts, so plan for the peak rather than the average:
- Spread them out. Several fountains near where students gather (ovals, canteen, main corridors) shorten queues more than one large unit in a single spot.
- Add bottle fillers. Most students carry a drink bottle, and a bottle filler lets them fill it in one go instead of waiting at the bubbler.
- Check chilling capacity. It's measured in litres per hour: up to 30 L/h for the RM33 Blizzard range, up to 26 L/h for the M11 and 19 L/h for the AC-WM4 and AC-WM5.
Fully outdoors, covered or indoors?
- Fully exposed sites such as ovals and playgrounds: choose a model built for outdoor use, like the Aqua Cooler SU600 and SU650.
- Covered outdoor areas such as walkways and sports sheds: the M11 is IP33 rated for indoor or outdoor use, and the RM33 Blizzard range suits sites with basic shelter from the weather.
- Indoor corridors: wall-mounted and recessed fountains keep walkways clear.
Durability and hygiene
The RM33 Blizzard has a one-piece, rust-proof rota-moulded cabinet with a front panel held by concealed stainless steel screws, which makes it hard to tamper with. For hands-free use, the RM33FA has a foot-pedal glass filler, and the Oasis range has sensor-activated bottle filling. See all contactless and hands-free models.
Installation and maintenance
- Most drinking fountains need a water supply, a drain and, for chilled models, a power point. They must be installed by a licensed plumber. See our installation checklist.
- Installation isn't included in the price, but we can help you arrange a contractor.
- On filtered models, change the cartridge as the manufacturer recommends, typically every 6 to 12 months depending on use. The M11 uses the Aqua Cooler Z-8110 filter.
- Clean bubbler heads and drip trays regularly. Replacement RM bubbler taps and filler taps are in stock.
Buying for a school

We don't install them ourselves. Drinking fountains must be installed by a licensed plumber, and we can help you arrange a contractor.
What warranty do school drinking fountains have?
It depends on the model. The Aqua Cooler M11 and Waterworks RM33 Blizzard come with a 12-month warranty, and the Aqua Cooler SU650 with a 2-year manufacturer's guarantee. Each product page shows the warranty for that model.
How often do drinking fountain filters need changing?
Typically every 6 to 12 months, depending on how much the fountain is used and your local water quality. Follow the manufacturer's recommendation for your model.
